At Livingstons, we believe that choosing the right hearing aid is only half the journey – the real difference comes from how accurately it is fitted to your unique hearing needs. That’s why we use Real Ear Measurements (REM) in every fitting.
What Are Real Ear Measurements?
Real Ear Measurements are a gold-standard method of checking whether your hearing aids are delivering the correct sound levels for your ears. Tiny microphones are placed in your ear canal while you wear your hearing aids. This allows us to measure how sound actually behaves inside your ear, and fine-tune the hearing aids precisely to your hearing prescription.
Why Is This So Important?
No two ears are alike. The size, shape, and acoustics of your ear canal can dramatically change how sound is delivered by your hearing aid. Without REM, fittings are based on “average” ear shapes – which may mean your hearing aids are too quiet, too loud, or not clear enough. With REM, we can verify from the very start that your hearing aids are:
Set to the correct levels for your hearing loss.
Providing clear, comfortable sound across different pitches.
Matched to your prescription rather than “best guess” settings.
This means fewer return visits for adjustments, faster adaptation, and most importantly, better hearing outcomes from day one.
